2021 Merlot Moon Mountain District

Wine Notes Print tech sheet

Mountain-grown wines are renowned for their strength, complexity, and robust structure. In rugged volcanic terrain, the vines struggle to establish themselves, producing smaller berries with remarkable concentration. Grown at an elevation of 1,800 feet, our Merlot from the Moon Mountain District expresses its hillside origins with vibrant, opulent fruit and a refined flavor profile, enhanced by velvety tannins. The distinctive geography of Sonoma’s Moon Mountain District is ideally suited to crafting wines of both power and grace, a hallmark of this Merlot bottling.

Suggestions

  • Fontina Val d'Aosta, aged manchego
  • Salami with fennel and black pepper, Bresaola
  • Grilled eggplant with balsamic, roasted wild mushrooms with thyme, caramelized onions and peppers
  • Potato gratin with gruyère

What Our Team Is Saying:

"Rich volcanic soil and intense sun give this varietal a rich an complex flavor profile with notes of blackberry jam, black cherry, vanilla, and a baking spice finish. I often describe it as blackberry pie in a glass. The rich and vibrant complexity of this wine is sure to come alive when paired with some braised short ribs, mushroom and truffle risotto, or stuffed portobello mushrooms."
